Clued

A cooperative word game for two.

You and a partner look at the same 25 words, but each of you holds a different secret key. Take turns giving one-word clues, find all your Leads together, and stay clear of the Traps.

How it works

No turns to wait for at a table. Clued runs in the browser, keeps your game going between sessions, and lets you know when it's your move.

1

Start a game

Open Clued, type your first name and your partner's, and send them the link. That's your private game.

2

Clue and guess

Give a one-word clue and a number. Your partner taps the words they think you mean. Then you swap.

3

Win together

Find all 15 Leads before your turns run out. Beat each city to move along the route.

Lead: a word your partner has to find HERRINGRed herring: a wrong guess that ends the turn ✕Trap: tap one and the game is over

How to play

You're a team of two. The catch: you each see a different key, so you have to steer each other to your Leads with one-word clues.

Read your key

Your key marks some words for you. Your partner sees the same words, but with a different set of Leads and Traps.

Whale
Submarine
✕Bacon
Banjo

A green dot is one of your Leads: your partner has to find it from your clues. An X with a dashed border is one of your Traps: if your partner taps it, the game is over. No mark means a red herring for you.

Give a clue

On your turn, type one word and a number. The number says how many of your Leads it fits.

"Ocean" 2 points at WHALE and SUBMARINE, and keeps well away from BACON.

Guess

When your partner gives you a clue, tap the words you think they mean. A Lead turns green and you keep going. A red herring ends your turn and uses one mistake. A Trap ends the game for both of you.

You can stop whenever you like, and you can always guess more words than the number. Missed one earlier? Guess it on a later turn.

Pick a city

Every clue uses one turn. Each city sets how many turns you get and how many mistakes you can make. Beat them all to finish the route.

Sudden death

Out of turns with Leads still hidden? No more clues. Either of you can tap words you think are the other's Leads. One miss and it's over, so talk it through in the chat first.

Clue rules

  • One word only, and not a word that's still on the board.
  • Clues are about meaning, never spelling or sound. No "C 4" for four words that start with C.
  • Stuck? Pass, and your partner gives the rest of the clues.
  • Playing alone? Play solo with Clu, the AI teammate, who gives clues, guesses yours and chats as it goes.
